Who is More Likely to Click?

Who is more likely to click an ad? A user who just found your site (1 pageview) or someone who has been browsing for a while?

I'm trying to think of a way to test this, but I don't know how I would. How could I tell if an exit = a click on an ad or a natural exit?

Common sense would tell me that the longer a user has been on the site, the less likely they are to click an ad. But I'm not sure how far the coattail would go (or even if I should trust my intuition).

What I'm basically trying to figure out is basically the point at which it would be more profitable to swtich from CPC to CPM ads.

Anyone put any thought into this or researched it?

Either can click. But usually they will click if they have read part of a page at least.

How have you tested this? For me it's 50/50 between new user and repeat user, haven't tested pageviews, though.

As for someone who has been browsing for a while. It depends on if that user who previously clicked, had any type of interest in your product, but decided not to purchase at that particular time.

I think it's more likely the new user would click on.

I'm guessing new users are more likely to click. My regular visitors know where to find the information they're looking for.

So I did a couple of days of testing, and it appears that actually, as pageviews increase (probably to a certain threshold) eCPM and clickthrough increases as well. At least for the siteus I tested on.

    Here's what I did:
I saved cookie that counted how many pageviews a visitor made. After 6 pageviews, I stopped displaying the Adsense code.

Not only did my CTR drop but my eCPM dropped as well.

Now, this is by no means scientific, I only tested it for about 2 days. But I'm going to stop this test and try another strategy.
