Windows 7 is too cute, i don't like it - and it goes on with some spec requiments which additionaly makes it heavier to work on with older or low-ended machines. Another thing is compatibility. God, save us from those drivers problems;\ Personally i prefer XP

This is a very interesting post i was expecting people to all go w7 way but i am glad to hear some are still voting for XP i dont know why but i prefer XP i think it just seems to run smoother and for some reason i find excessing its features easier then any other windowns. Also like a few people have already said unless you spend the extra on getting more ram 7 can indeed run slower id stick with XP until you need to buy a new system.

best part in windows 7 is there is no need of installing teh drivers after installing the OS. every thing would be automatically loaded as windows 7 is installed

It depends on your usage. If you are a fan of old PC games (like NFS 2 SE, Road Rash, Prince of Persia, Tekken 3 etc.) or softwares, then you should go for XP. If not go for Win 7. It has new features and obviously you can play great games in it. But you need to forgo those old school games.

I use XP on a desktop - it ALWAYS works even after MS updates.
W7 on my laptop has more features (the best one I like is auto WiFi detection and connection) - but is much more flaky.
MS provide weekly updates (that you should avoid installing automatically) and it's a real pain checking out whether any will crash programs I use every day - such as skype or camtasia.
I waste lots of time installing updates then having to use a restore point to get things working again.
It usually takes another week or two before MS repair the damage bugs in an earlier update have caused.

I would definitely go with windows 7 because most everything is compatible with windows 7 on the net. With all the updates which I check regularly (every 3 or 4 days) plus networking to me seems better on windows 7. I also use remote desktop and networking so if you want to do these things I would suggest also to get at least pro or ultimate as home won't allow you to use remote desktop on other computers...

It all depends on your system. Windows 7 is the best choice if your running a dual-core processor or better and good amount of RAM. Windows XP is good for older computers and some programs are only compatible with Windows XP (if gaming with 'older' games, as said above), but some versions of Windows 7 offer XP mode for those classic games.
