One way or another it is worth being set down. Or you may try at least. I have XP and live but uses it only as a backup.
For me, the main criteria for the transition are:
The opportunity to use all 8 gigs of RAM memory
The support of updated drivers. For example, I have a sound card driver and it is able to improve the sound at the expense of its software. But the version of the driver works only with Win 7 and with XP I am to use the old one. Perhaps it has something to do with DirectX, and other multimedia libraries.
The support of DirectX 10 and over, which there is not in XP.
Theoretically, a more powerful working process with multicore processors.

On the other hand I do not like Windows Seven for several reasons, but they are likely unique.

I prefer XP. It runs faster on PC's that are older. I can't afford to buy new computer just to run Windows 7. And i don't care if it is with better animations... They only waste huge amount of RAM memory which you may need for something more important.

Windows 7 all the way, from personal experience, it also runs much faster compared to XP.

windows 7 is better, faster, even i prefer it, but consumes after boot much more memory than XP. (1GB ram is enough for boot and system, but u can launch only browser and not much application)
so for older computers is xp better (1GB ram pc, it consumes around 333MB, so u can launch browser, or older games)

i have win 7 with 4 gigs for working and playing games
and i have win 7 on athlon 3200+ 1gb ram and its uselles for old games, i would like to install xp back there, but no time

Windows 7 is faster and more secured than windows XP. Though it need more RAM and CPU, graphics etc.
Its feature make your computing easy and reliable.

XP is the best and long running OS. The most stable MS OS for me. But the problem is, their support ends last year not unless if you are a Gold or VIP client then you will have XP support until 2014

I am very faithful to Microsoft. I love their products, and I have a bias towards Microsoft over Apple (although I truly think pc and mac are apples and oranges; they cannot be compared) In any case, I am still using XP, as I feel the transition between XP-> Vista -> W7 was not great enough to warrant an OS upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I love what Vista (lol) and 7 have to offer, it's just that XP can accomplish what I need. The only problem I have with the newer OS' is that they require a greater amount of RAM to function. Granted, in a year or so (or even a few months), the technology advances will be fast enough so that the memory really isn't a valid excuse. However, I digress. My point is: Why not wait until W8 is released, so that I can build a brand new PC from scratch, with the latest hardware (which is already advancing very quickly) that includes MULTIPLE GB (8+) of RAM, extremely vivid graphics card, and a superior processor that is far superior to the one I am typing this message on? I may just have some screwed up logic, but that's my thought process. BTW, my visual settings for my entire platform is based off of the pre-WXP layout. Old school taskbar & Start menu. I may just be a sucker for the old school Microsoft.

The Windows 7 Ultimate is amazing! It has everything that Home Premium and Professional + flexibility. You can create a home net to share pics, videos, music and even watch TV. I am from Brazil and I bought my at the Microsoft Store http://www.cupomdedescontos.com.br/promocao/microsoftstore.com.br but I think you can find here as well. Go for it mate!

If you have an old computer with less memory then it is XP that will be better to work with, while if you have a lots of memory and good processor speed to support it then it is Win 7 without a doubt as it is sure to provide the best experience. I have a desktop that has XP installed and a recently purchased laptop that has Win 7. Both of them have been working fine for me.

I can't tell which one is better but so far XP has been very cooperative with me ever since. Now I'm using Windows 7 and have been experiencing some trouble every now and then so I don't quite like it for now.
