Who grew up in a religious home? And then moved out / grew up and gave it all up?

    Hi,

I grew up in a religious home. My dad is a pastor, Christian, of the evangelical variety. Sorta fundamentalist but not super-fundy. Anyway I grew up as a "Christian" not knowing any better pretty much (they didn't tell us there were other options). And I grew up in a small town too, so was pretty sheltered.

Then I left home, off to university. I think a philosophy critical thinking class started me thinking about religion and what I really believe. And eventually I found no reason to believe and realized the only reason I believed all this stuff is because it was taught to me growing up. So eventually I gave up on religion completely. And now I guess I'm sort of "agnostic", not knowing and not really caring whether there's a God or not.

Anyone else have similar situations? Especially would like to hear from any pastor's kids whether you've left your religion or not. :)

    Matt

It's the other way around for me... Atheist parents and atheist public education. Took quite a while to recover

I didn't really grow up in a religious home, but my mom tried and continues to try to force it on me. She tries to make me read the bible and go to church, yet she does neither herself.

As a child all us kids (5 of us) were forced into going to "Sunday School" (Christian Church of England Cobblers) every week by our parents. Complete fucking bollocks of course because my parents were not religious at all and only did it so they could get us all out of the house for a couple of hours once a week.

Whether they did it just for the peace and quiet or so they could have sex is one of the mysteries of my childhood.

Still either way as soon as I hit 16 I didn't need to go to "Sunday School" and I was very happy about that. :)

I still think to this very day that you should never force your children into any religion, it should be their choice at the end of the day. ;)

Didn't grow up in a religious family.
But studied every religion and found Islam to be the perfect one.

And the remaining 1% forget that two cells cannot join together to form a bicellular organism. And human beings have millions of cells.
