Who gives ICANN the right to all that power and money

    No one person/body/country owns the internet, its a world wide thing.

    So who then gives ICANN the right to be in control of domain names and take 20c for every one purchased. Where does this 20c go to aswell, I know its a non profit organisation, but at the rate of domain purchases it would be impossible not to profit.

    I'm assuming its an American body, but why then couldnt the communists start a wecanntoo.org. Better be careful actually, could start a World War III...

    Who really cares? It is a non-profit organization.

    Besides, it is only a matter of time before ICANN is internationalized.
