    I would say Adolf Hitler.
    many might think him as a dictator, But to me he is a real hero who uplifted Germany from WWI. He is indeed a great person.

    What's great about attempting to enslave Europe and committing genocide to groups of people?

    You're one sick individual.

    One could argue that the prophet Muhammed(peace be apon him)and Jesus are equally influential depending on what part of the world you are living in.
    @vishnububa
    Adolf Hitler came to power blaming a minority(Jews)for all the evils that had befallen Germany due to the treaty of Versailles.Then once in power he slaughtered them.His whole philosophy was based on irrational hate.
    @vivekool
    I don't know much about APJ Abdul Kalam so can't comment on him.
    @BRUm
    There are a few people who admire Adolf Hitler and to many of us this seems incomprehensable.

    Many reading this thread may assume you are referring to "the" Buddha.Perhaps you could write a few lines to explain who Gautama Buddha is?

    Hi there. Just want to give comments. For the people who answer "my mother" or "my father", the title of this thread is "Who do you think was the greatest person in history?" not "Who's the greatest person?"

    @Spoiltdiva, I watched Joan of Arc movie, played by Milla Jovovich. Is the story in that movie true? Was she actually murdered by the church and she could see things?

    I think Gautama Buddha referred by monkeyweb is Sidharta Gautama

    Joan of Arc saw visions as early as age 12.She so impressed everyone that they sent her to see the Dauphin in Paris.There was a fable that one day "The maid of Lorraine" would come to free the French people from the rule of the English.Joan was from the village of Doremy in the province of Lorraine.The dauphin felt that Joan was the "maid of Lorraine" and believed in her.She was placed in command of the French forces.Even at 17 years of age her battlefield tactics were amazing.
    She was betrayed by the Burgundians to the English.She was burnt at the stake and among her last words were'"Hold up the cross so that I may see it through the flames!" She died so bravely that most of the English and Burgundian knights and men at arms wept.A general said,"My God we have burnt a saint!"

    my opinion is a hero.
    as a hero willing to sacrifice his life for his country to independence.
    I will never forget the heroes who have rendered services to liberate my country.
