Hey guys, I'm sure you remember the old thread. Now that we are a lot more familiar with the candidates, we've heard their stances, we've brought in some new faces to P&R, and a few people have dropped out, let's see where the support is for the Republican nomination in 2008!

Ron Paul of course. The only Republican candidate who is pro-peace and pro-freedom.

I want to see where support has shifted. I figure Huckabee has pulled some who previously supported Guiliani or Romney, and I want to see where the Brownback/Tancredo votes went.

Man looks like most of the Nixon gang don't want their votes known. Hey guys, I don't blame you, months have gone by and you can see the rest of the field is slop, I'd have trouble justifying any other choice than Paul too. Perhaps if I didn't make your votes visible you'd be willing to vote? Hehehe...

I don't understand how anyone can support Rudy Giuliani.

Taken from a 1994 Giuliani speech:

"Freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

I think Ron Paul is the best, but I have some reservations. If I decide not to vote for Ron Paul, I will probably just not vote at all. When I first started supporting Ron Paul, I had some enthusiasm. I guess I have kind of lost that. I bring this up not in the spirit of criticism, but honestly curious for some feedback. At the beginning, I knew he endorsed to stop support of all other countries. In theory that sounded like a great idea. I realized he would not help Israel, but I love everything else about Ron Paul so much. So I went with it. Then I was reading some posts by a muslim that does not live in America and hates Israel. He was pretending to be American and telling everyone to join the Ron Paul revolution. Since that moment, I could not feel the same. I try to think, if we do not help Israel perhaps they would get enough assistance from private donations. Maybe everything would be fine or maybe it won't be fine. The thought that people that may want to destroy Israel are licking their chops at the thought that America won't back them up is very disturbing to me. In every other issue, Ron Paul is the best.

Rebecca, we have a weird relationship with Israel. We support them with money, technology, and weapons; at the same time, we also control their actions with their neighboring countries, and in a sense sort of have them on a leash. If anything, a lot of times Israel can't act as it wishes because of the USA peering over their shoulder watching their every move.

You are forgetting Israel is not a poor nation to begin with, plus support would stop to the arab countries as well. They get more combined than Israel 'from what I remember'. If you're so worried about Israel one would think stopping more support to Arab countries would be a good thing ;)

Israel is also much, much more powerful than any nation in the area who would like to harm them. They do not need us to baby sit them one bit.

Rebecca, we give more aid to Israel's enemies, than we do Israel.

They have nearly 200 nuclear weapons. I think they are already as safe as aid can make them.

Certainly vote your conscience (or not as you indicated), but realize there are a lot of people who may support Ron Paul (or be dual accounts of the usual suspects) that want to promote ignorance, and disinformation.

You can listen to Paul in his own words here,
    http://www.sais-jhu.edu/mp3_player/fall2007/ronpaul091107.htm

And read this statement to the House,

rebecca, don't be blinded by this notion that "we oughtta help israel", anyone who has a clue about our relations with Israel knows we hold them back more than anything.

if you really wanna help them, stay outta their way. they have plenty of weapons, military and nukes to leave their own mark in the world. radical islamists want us to keep our relations tangled with Israel because we weaken them.

they're not some "poor little country" like sean hannity wants you to believe..
