I'm thinking that maybe i shouldn't care about search engines like google and their PR. I should just try to get as much traffic as i can with out paying for it any way i can. my goal is to get people to my site and let the decide to buy or not. I feel like waiting for google puts my success in their hands. the only thing i need from a search engine is to be indexed and that's it. I will find other ways to bring people to my site. I think by ignoring the search engines and finding other successful avenues then that's when the PR and things like it will increase.
If you are confident you can make it work without the search engines then do it. But you should still make your site "search engine friendly".
Well, it is totally up to your site, how much traffic your site is getting on regular basis and all, If you have that much amount of traffic, to your site then you can live with out search engine, but it is little hard, as you have to maintain your site every time to keep the traffic on your site.
without search engine it seems a little hard to get more traffic...because in starting direct traffic help but as time passes you need traffic from search engines...
I think you're making a mistake. First of all even if you promote your site in other ways the odds are people will look for it - BY SEARCHING IN SEARCH ENGINES. And secondly promoting a site without paying anything is very difficult. A little bit of affective SEO is the most useful way of marketing a website by far. You can either do it yourself or pay to have someone else do it for cheaper than other forms of advertising.
agree with expo09.. first thing people do to get info about a product is use search engines. so you just want to be indexed? let's say your site is on page 45 on a specific keyword. how many unique visitors would your site have? I know i will stop checking search results on the third page.. search engines still play a big part in getting traffic to your site.. but if that's what you want, good luck..
