I'd like some in depth details about PageRank... I know what it "generally" means, but there are so many theories floating around that sometimes it's tought to decide to what to believe and what to consider crap.... So does anybody have any hard evidence as to how PageRank is derived? and waht significance it has on Search Engine Positioning? But please, don't just tell me what you "feel" about it... tell me actual numbers you've had on your sites... or other studies or reports that you have seen. Thank you
This is straight from google..... http://www.google.com/technology/ And since it is from google, they also have this one: http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html A more in-depth look at page rank: http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/ Or just google "page rank"
one of the best articles i have seen including a chart is by DP member "compar" at http://www.compar.com/infopool/articles/PR-calculation.html
Ok, we're still looking for some real data here.... Google provides no real data to support anything hard conclusions

Best not to worry too much about PageRank. There are many other factors more important in terms of rankings.
Well, if the information is from anywhere else but Google, I don't think it could be considered real data either. Everything else is going to be based on pure speculation.
I think that valid data is available outside of Google, for instance when somebody starts a site and tracks everything (inbound links, the PR of referring links, etc) then you can make a case for makes up the PR for the site. Since we'll never have access to what exactly Google does to determine the PageRank, it would only make sense for others to post things they've learned from doing search engine research. Or maybe this'll always be a topic of debate.
I would have to always say a topic of debate. To throw a monkey wrench at the idea of someone tracking all of their stats, links, etc... what about that last Google Update! New sites without hardly any stats, inbound links, etc getting PR4's etc... I seriously doubt we will ever know the facts. But, this is just my opinion, there is always room for speculation and educated guesses.
Matt Cutts posted in his blog that PR is way to measure the importance of a webpage or site in the eyes of Google. Higher PR gets a page crawled more often by the Googlebot.
