    Guys,

We have seen many people claiming to be competitors of Google. We saw cuil, yahoo msn tie up. But in my opinion no one has touched their base.

Who can be future competitor. Your thoughts?

I don't think anyone for the immediate future. People are creatures of habit, even if there are better search engines out there, to break people's habit of simply using the google toolbar, or searching from google's home page is going to be tough.

Highlighting this issue is how people don't just say "search engine it", but "google it". That kind of branding is tough to overcome, like the cola industry, people don't say "give me a cola", they say "give me a coke"....

Google will remain the top SE for years to come. Bing and yahoo don't stand a chance.

90% global market share. No one has a chance. With such advances as Google Wave, they have shown just who's miles ahead of the game. Microsoft has always been the next alternative and with Bing taking control of Yahoo that will help, although they don't offer anything new and exciting.

Bing has a chance, but not if their strategy is just to buy marketshare. Whoever has a chance of competing needs to really innovate.

    Nobody

Google keeps evolving and adding new features, all of their services are market leaders (maps, gmail, docs..etc) and theyre all tired into search

Google has the best, and brightest people working for them

Even if theres a new competitor, Google will be quick to add their features - and probably do it better

    Microsoft is the past,
Google is the giant like microsoft at least in the next 5 to 10 years,
now I can't see any potential competitor against google.

There must be some can beat Google in the future but not near future.
No company can be great forever.
Just like Microsoft, it is great in the past and has large portion of market share in OS. But it must be beat by someone in the future.

Google is not about the SE only anymore, so what do u compare Google to others with?

For example, as a SE? As a directory? As a social networking?

So it is really hard to give a comprehensive answer!

I think Twitter has a chance
In Twitter searches you can find actual data happens right now
Google gives you not so fresh results as Twitter gives.
For example in the day of big earthquake in Italy Google gave results about Italy earthquake occurred before some years ago, but Twitter brought very fresh news from eyewitness.

Microsoft was caught napping when it refused to explore the world of internet. Google took the opportunity and now it's number 1. It's quite possible that Google makes the same mistake as MS and somebody else comes with a brilliant and innovative idea which everyone wants and which makes Google to plunge a bit if not more.

Google still the king of searhc engine for the new 5 years. However, if both yahoo and bing work hard on search engine development, then they might become the biggest competitor for google in future
