ello, I purchased a VPS from Budgetvm.com and it came with (3) ip address, which is what was ordered. However, it shows me those (3) plus it shows me the following which is a 4th additional one: 198.98.102.81 Main/shared IP for root Now, when I create accounts normally, this is the IP where the accounts normally go on but it wasn't even in the pool of the (3) ip address i ordered. The three I normally have are: 172.246.118.240 172.246.118.241 172.246.118.247 Now, my question is this...where is that 198.98.102.81 coming from, as I can't access it via the FTP, in order for me to access any accoutns via FTP i have to use the 172.246.118.240 ip address with the cPanel and account details. Another question is this, when i change a sites IP Address via WHM, it dedicated taht account to that IP Address and I can't use that ip adderss for anythign else, so how can i setup all the different accounts on those three ips, and make sure they are SHARED and not dedicated.
Hello there, You should really be asking your host this question. It sounds like they have incorrectly placed your VPS on an inaccessible IP address (as this is the main IP). Now, you can go through the "Basic cPanel & WHM Setup" screen and change the default IP for setting up shared accounts to one of the three that you know works. Regards, Chris
I have to agree with Chris here, this is something you should open a ticket with your host about. Solving it is pretty simple as stated above. The shared IP is used to host all sites that are not provided with a dedicated IP. So for example you might want your site to have it's own IP for reputation, SSL and e-mail purposes. Thus you would give it a dedicated IP. All other sites on the server would share that main IP.
Who installed and configured your WHM for first time use? You should of been given a list of ips tied to your server. You then can assign them to specific A records as nameservers or just keep them on the side for dedicated ips later. Your nameservers ips are the ones that everyone on the server will be sharing along with the hostname. If you need help with getting this setup feel free to shoot me a pm.
