As of a few munites ago, I notice that www2.google.com and www3.google.com are pointing back to the main www.google.com. Do you suppose they have taken those toys off the table?

Quite possible that they are off the table. Let's see...

Very nice catch. Time will tell if this is just temporary or a lasting change.

They are, or were, alternate Google sites; they look/ed and act/ed just like regular Google, but were widely thought to offer a small "peek into the future""--that is, be somewhat more up to date that the main google.

In my limited experience, that was so. For large site in the process of slowly being indexed, 2 and 3 always showed site page counts a nontrivial amount higher than G classic.

It begins to look like G wants to take away all webmaster-useful toys, from PR to sneak peeks.

    Eric,

    Thanks for the information.

I wish I'd known that some time ago, but I suppose it's irrelevant now if it's been taken away.

I guess we will all just have to wait and see if they come back on line. I am hoping that we get a few of these toys back though.
