Can somebody clue me in on the differences between these two? I'm not even sure what they are? Thanks, -Mark
The link below is the best post that I've read about black hat vs whitehat in the seo world. http://www.bluehatseo.com/parabole-whitehat-vs-blackhat/
Most of the time use Whitehat, however blackhat can be effective, but is only shortlived and usually results in a site being banned or penalised within a certain amount of time
Think of "White Hat SEO" as the fundamentals, and "Black Hat SEO" as worst-practices that should be avoided like the plague. In other words, if you're worried that your chops are going to get busted by a search engine if you use a certain technique, then chances are very good that you shouldn't use it.
I personally use techniques from both world, on different sites in my network. I only use white hat techniques on my unique content sites that I care about, and do some blackhat stuff on sites of mine that I dont care about, short lived sites that will be banned from google in a month or so. The good thing is, once google bans your site you can still get traffic from MSN/Yahoo!
white seo will bring your visitors and black seo will be a reason for search engine bans. blackseo is not a suggest seo way
I have simple differentiation of the two techniques. White Hat the legal way of optimizing your site, it may be slower in giving good results but the results will definitely last long. Black Hat the "illegal" way of optimizing your site. Fooling Search Engines. It may be faster in giving good results but most of the time it doesn't last long.
I am sorry but I am not taking any risks with my clients sites.....I prefer to be patient than to take the risk and be penalized... I'll stick to the fundamentals
Thanks. I have recently started to branch out my SEO beyond linkswapping to understand the whole system better. the post that Fewleftstanding put up was a great help.
What gets defined as Black and White hat can become blurred. There are techniques that I think are totally white hat and fair that others see as black hat and deceitful. Let your conscience be your guide I guess. Some commonly known black hat techniques are cloaking, stuffing, spamming, and XSS vulnerabilities.
