    The actual words:

Taking responsibility doesn't change the facts outlined above.

Couple this with previous hurricanes where response was never an issue, where damage was done and recovery took place and people were helped. Now compare those with the size and magnitude of the largest natural disaster our country has ever seen. There's not much comparison. Four states, and an entire city with over a million people flooded.

Bush wasn't the problem, the hurricane was. FEMA has dealt with many hurricanes quite successfully. Three states got it right, one state didn't and consistently refused help.

Well my knowledge is not vast on this subject (as yours seems) from this crazy canuck's perspective your focus is narrow and rescue efforts took too long. Once y'all can agree on that, a plan can be formulated to improve efforts next time a disaster strikes of this magnitude. Unfortunatley I don't think it's the last time this will happen so we need to learn from mistakes. Without acknowlegement of this we will not learn how to improve for the next one.

Hey hindsight is always 20/20. I really don't think anyone is arguing that things were not perfect, but there was a lot more response (and better response) from the feds, than from the state and local level.

It's amazing how so many find fault with a president that actually assumes responsiblity for things, whether at fault or not. Hell the last one could not even tell the truth when asked.

And those "colossal F-ups" are? Talk about stand up...

Actually the hurricane wasn't even the problem. Very little damage was done by Katrina by comparision to the ineptness of the state and local government that spent my money and yours on things other than the levies. What did the damage was the flooding. The hurricane was nothing by comparision.

Yeah, it is ironic that we do not here the other 3 states crying fould, especially since one of them experienced a higher level of damage and death.

It is amazing how ignorant this disaster has made some people.

Holy Chit. Honest I have never seen this article, but it certainly supports my view on this whole mess.

BTW does any one know how clean-up/repairs are progressing? Are levies being rebuilt stronger?

I must admit I really don't see much coverage on this anymore.

Sidenote: If I lived in one of these high risk zones I would consider investing in something portable and precious, so you can basically rebuild yourself from your pocket. I hear yellow diamonds are a great investment :).

So far everything I have read points to more waste and mismanagment at the state/local level that will likely be directed back at Bush.

That's because it's not news anymore. Hunting accidents are more popular in the mainstream media ;)

One thing I have not seen anyone mention (was mentioned to me today) is that if you knowingly plopped yourself down on a piece of land below sea level knowing full well the dangers, you have one person to blame; yourself.

Perhaps the stupid will now move. The smart already have.

That racist Katrina even wiped out one of my relatives homes (everthing) they are also on the coastal area that is surrounded by water already, so they knew to leave before hand.

(I didn't realize how much katrina hated white people like that part of my family!)

Are you really surprised? Look on the bright side.. Cheap experiment for them in the effects of massive disasters on a big, cheap (in terms of lives), population!!! If it were somewhere important were the demographics were different, the response would have been mighty indeed! and few would have died.

Most of the people that died did not heed the warnings. There were mandatory evactuations several days prior to the Katrina coming ashore. Most of the people that died did so because they refused to leave. It's hard to keep some people from committing suicide sometimes. Can't hurt to try though.

Mia I like your posts but.... I have to say Bull! Many of those who stayed had no-place to go, no money to go there, no belief that the warnings were real and generally a belief that the government would NOT actually let them drown!
