I'm about to but a URL name, both .com and .co.uk have gone. I noticed that these sites already rank highly in a short space of time due to the URL name and some decent content. I was wondering what would extension is best to buy. For Example .EU .INFO .BIZ .UK.COM I was under the impression that .EU s helped with ranking but I may be totally wrong, any advice is much appreciated
I don't think domain extension affects rankings.. Not all .orgs rank higher than .coms or vice versa.. Wikipedia is .org while yahoo is .com.. Hmmm.. Google, Yahoo and Bing does not include these factors when ranking search results.. Domain Name extension just categorizes websites.. .edu for schools & educational institutions, .gov for government, .com for general , .org was supposed to be for organizations.. etc..
Domain ext doesnt matter like it used to, now that most new sites are not .com there are so many of them now, you can just find one that is easy for people to remember.
Tricky one as those ending are not as catchy as .co.uk and .com maybe .biz would make a nice change, might be worth getting a site with a hythen it it or something so u can get the .com or .co.uk domain maybe ? Woc
I agree. all kinds of extension can high ranks but it depends on you how you handle and manage your site.
It may not effect serps but I suggest you go for .net as its more popular than the ones you suggested.
The only one I would go with out of that list is .uk.com. I would stay away from .info and .biz as much as possible.
I can see the .org ranking higher due to more seo'd sites being .coms there odds are is something in the algorithm on the various domain extensions at least to some extent. Anyone have proof proving or disproving that domain extension has zero effect on ranking?
Haven't seen that either. I would stay away from the *.info's and the *.biz though as many folks equate that as spammer domains. Unless of course that's what you;re doing... I personally think the *.uk.com's are confusing. Are the *.net's or *.org's still available?
It depends on which Google you are trying to rank in... If you want to rank in Google.com do NOT buy a domain with a country specific TLD like .co.uk, for instance. All domains with country specific TLDs (like example.co.uk) are automatically assumed by Google to be targetting that particular country's Google index (for example, Google.co.uk). You cannot even set the Geographical target in Google Webmaster Tools for a domain with a country specific TLD because they automatically assume you want to rank in that country specific Google index. For this reason, it will be harder to make a .co.uk rank in Google.com than a non-country specific TLD like .com, .net, .org, etc. It's not impossible to make a .co.uk domain rank in Google.com but it IS harder because of the assumed Geo Target. To get a .co.uk domain to rank in Google.com will require more links than a .com would... and they'll need links from other sites that rank relatively will in Google.com's index. Search Google.com for some common phrases and see how many domains rank high w/ country specific TLDs. Not many... If you search a country specific Google index you'll see that most of the domains that rank there are domains w/ country specific TLDs. You will, however, see some domains with non-country specific TLDs because a .com for instance CAN set their Geo Target in Google's WMT to the United Kingdom. As others have said, if you want to rank at Google.com then which non-country specific TLD you buy (.com, .net, .org, etc.) has no bearing on your rankings (although .com and .net generally have better click-thru-rates in the SERPs than some of the others like .info and .biz). So give some thought to which Google you want to rank in before buying a domain. For optimal rankings: If you are targetting traffic from the US or traffic from lots of different countries then target Google.com. In this case, I would highly suggest that you get a domain with a non-country specific TLD (like a .com, .net, .org, etc.) AND host it in the US. Set the Geographical Target in Google's WMT appropriately. Build backlinks from other sites that also target Google.com. If you want to target a country specific Google (like Google.co.uk) then I suggest you get a domain with a country specific TLD (like example.co.uk) AND host your domain in that country. The Geographical Target in Google's WMT will automatically default to that particular country. Build backlinks from other sites that also target that particular Google index (like Google.co.uk). In other words, build backlinks from other .co.uk sites.
Domain extension does not effect ranking, If you have a good content and quality website you can be on top with info website..
I don't think extension matters for SERP but If you want to promote your site in specific country you should go for the country specific domain ie. for uk you should go for co.uk.
