i want to optimize page for keyword 'christmas gifts'. so please tell which url structure have more weight. christmas-gifts.mydomain.com OR www.mydomain.com/christmas-gits.html
i normally use domain.com/keyword/ unless my domain already has the keyword in it for e.g. if the domain was christmas.com i would use christmas.com/gifts/
christmas-gifts.mydomain.com as a subdomain would be much better - because subdomain has more weight and because the keyword goes first!
I would say that there is not much difference between the two.. I would prefer the second format thou
Subdomain, but it depends what you have there... Usually google shows only one page in results. Withi subdomain you have a chance to be twice in serp but I'm not sure whether will not cause any punishment from big 'g'. As I said it depends of your content and purposes...
All the weight of the domain will be passed to the subfolder, giving it an advantage over the subdomain, don't you think?
I would prefer the second format. Maybe because I have sites with lots of pages (thousands), and that's nearly impossible with subdomains.
If you will have a new website there in "Christmas-gifts" so I would prefer subdomain.domain.com (as i'm using now), if you will have a websites part you should use the domain.com/subdirectory/ . I'm willing it helped you.
Here's what I usually do. If the topic doesn't fit into your site theme, or the breadth of the topic is so large, you'll have to reorganize your navigation design, use subdomains. If you're not going to cover it too much in depth, just use subfolders. For example. CBS.com probably has CBS.com/survivor and CBS.com/CSI, but its has cbssportsline.com for all of its sports, because to properly cover sports, they can't use the same format as all of their other shows. The breadth is too big for their normal site format and they use a separate domain. This method of choosing has SEO advantages as well.
I think subdomains are considered completely different things from web site. So www.website.com/link AND www.website.com are parte of the same domain, according to search engines, while: subdomain.website.com AND www.website.com are different domains. I don't think you would want a different domain
Thats true, they are different domains, and so you would have to promote the subdomain on its own, whereas you don't have to promote the subfolder as much.
