If you are going to create an "international" application, then you need to leave in the "US". Otherwise it has no value.

There is also no value in using the "County", no one searches the SE by County.

The real question is how someone will search for the state:

    Cumberland, MD

    or

    Cumberland, Maryland

Because of this, I would go to the abbrevated state code and it shortens the url.

    Or use: http://www.mysite.com/md/cumberland/

    **********

And Upper Case vs Lower Case is a myth.

    Hey there,

    Thanks for the great replies.

Search wise, I want people to be able to search for things like "Green Maryland", "Green MD", "Green Allegany County", "Green Cumberland", and "Green 21502".

    example.com/us/md/allegany-county/cumberland/21502/

This structure seems like it would add the most flexibility and user friendly approach. However, I am worried about keywords getting diluted. Perhaps it may be better to do something like this:

    example.com/us/md/allegany-county.cfm
    example.com/us/md/cumberland.cfm
    example.com/us/md/21502.cfm

While the us directory has no initial value, it allows for expansion in the future and keeps these auto-generated directories under one folder so that it does not clutter up the root directory.

I still think it may be better to do this:

    example.com/us/md/allegany-county/cumberland/21502/

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

The last one is the most SEO-friendly. But it doesn't really matter how long your URL is, it boils down to building links.
