As a new website who is trying to get into the Google top 3 for a moderately searched keyword, how should I go about handling my directory submissions? Should I concentrate on those with PR3+ only, or should I just submit to all directories to get the most number of backlinks? I'm doing everything manually and slowly so as not to get tagged by Google. Basic question- are more submissions better, or is less but PR3+ directories better for what I'm trying to achieve?
You want to shoot for a lower amount of high quality directories, ideally PR5+. A great post on directory submission and a comprehensive list of authorative directories (based on both PR AND age of the site) can be found here http://www.avivadirectory.com/strongest-directories/ Work your way through these and you can't go wrong
Directory? You have to know if the directory is indexed and cache regularly by Google and it has a back links. You can also submit to directory PR0 because eventually it will gain PR after several months but much better if the directory is already have higher PR.
I'm manually submitting to free directories that are page rank 2-5. I haven't noticed a change in my PR thus far. When I look at the linkpopularity website I see the most inbound links are for yahoo, some for MSN but not many for google. The number even within a given search engine is not static. For yahoo it goes down then high again, it's somewhat similar with MSN but with the number much less than yahoo. But with google the number of inbound links continues to decrease. Is anyone familiar with this?
The PR of the Directory on home page is not important... what counts most is the PR of the page your submission will be on. It doesn't benefit that much if you submit on a PR 6 directory but your link is on a PR0 sub-page. One of the fewest advantages in this case is that your link will be indexed faster than on a new directory. Hope this helps
