well CS5 is very good.

 

The difference between CS4 and CS5 is minimal. I think if you are a beginner it's better to start with CS5 because this edition is improved and renewed.

I am more familiar with using cs4. I have yet to upgrade.

 

CS5 has many features liek content aware, refine tool which makes it easier to use. If your hardware doesnt support it, download a portable version.

 

Cs4 and Cs5 both are equally good .but i choose cs5 because it's a new version.
