Actually it was, beta stage though, but take some time to test it a bit on a local server, interesting ;)

And I do not agree with the supposed security weakness of phpbb compared to other scripts, it's more widely used, so it's normal it's the most hacked.

And it's a fact the vast majority of phpbb hacking where due to outdated version, the few that stands are mostly due to allowing html in posts, which is not like impossible to deal with. Register Global on is as well a classic weakness, as per many php scripts.
Because it's been a very long time since no decent hacker dared to hack phpBB, what would it prove ?
Script kiddies hacking phpBB do it mostly because of it's success, and updates helps a lot to find out which outdated version could be weak.
Lazy user do the rest by not being up to date.

Actually, phpBB is certainly the php script to have been the more deeply analysed as far as security issues, and is a safe script if you just admin you web site like it is a web site.

Then comes page loading, yes it's slower than punbb, yes phpBB 3.0 will be faster, if I could post a link I'd show you how fast can phpBB load a page, and it's pretty decent actually.

But you have the biggest community with phpBB, more coders, more mods, more support, more everything, and this is as well something to consider.
Actually I think it's his success to cause trouble, because it makes it easy to install and mod for newbies, but in the end, how many up to date vanilla phpBB went hacked ?
Last time phpBB.com was hacked, was due to aw stats ;)

What program do you use to modify the phpbb? I tried to open the index page with front page express to modify it, but it didn't work. Any help is appreciated.

I personally use textpad from textpad.com to edit files.
    It makes it pretty easy.

Yes, if you're going to modify the code. THough php isn't all that difficult to learn, as programming languages go.

I think phpBB is perfectly fine if you're looking for free software; and are willing to ensure that you're always kept up to date. The code is notorious for being vulnerable and with such a wide userbase is a haven for hackers. (in other words, you have to keep it up to date or you'll get hacked).

If you're willing to drop a small bit of money, or you have a busy forum, then vbulletin is the next step up from phpBB IMO.

I'd personally stay away from 'non-standard' forum programs. When the day comes to move forum programs you're going to want something common enough that there's a conversion program for it.

    Thank you,
I am looking for a program that is as easy to work with such as Front Page Express. I am not good at writing codes. Do you know of anyone like that?

Eliminated my forum with phpbb and put up punbb.
Fast upload and setting it up!
    Was surprised!

Glad I got this one for my new forum.
Just have to set up categories, get a logo, etc.

Its not fair to say that phpBB is bad just because it has exploits..kkep in mind that even vBulletin has exploits...

The only reason that people like to hack phpBB is because some forum admin are lazy to update their boards and phpBB is widely used.

If vBulletin was the only forum board existed..I can guarantee that they will be a lot of exploits found...

Although SMF has a better admin interface but phpBB is still my favourite
