Some of the best social-bookmarking websites, including Del.icio.us, Digg and StumbleUpon, can send a flood of traffic to your website. Unfortunately, visitors from social-bookmarking websites like these are savvy and traffic from these websites is known to convert poorly. Are there any significant differences in conversion rate between social-bookmarking websites? Which social-bookmarking websites yield the highest conversion rate?
I'd seem to think that only niche ones would...like Sphinn with Marketing sites...but I can't say I've experienced it.
In my experience, Propeller (former Netscape) was the best by far in terms of conversion rate. The next one is StumbleUpon, but at a big distance.
Does the conversion rate depend a lot on finding the right niche within the large, popular and more general social-bookmarking websites or -contrarily- on finding the right, smaller, less popular and more specific (niche) social-bookmarking websites?
I would seem to think the niche bookmarking ones are more effective. At least you know it's not going to be yet another site where people are wasting time at work, waiting for 5:00, and clicking/closing sites all day long. That's why I like the more focused ones, you know the type of people who visit. (i.e. nobody visits Sphinn to watch celeb videos or read political rants)
The more focused on your own niche the better in my experience. Large sites can give lots of traffic but conversions are pretty poor to go with it.
Does anyone else have any experience on different conversion rates with different social-bookmarking website that he wants to share?
Well, the average conversion rate is at around 1%, so if the Webmaster is getting that.... Could it be because the site itself is not that good? Could it be because the bait put in these network postings give the impression of getting free stuff if one was to go to the site? Who knows.
well, all of the bookmarking sites working well for me, even a new one, that I have recently discovered - www.wagg.it
Hi, I'm skeptical about making money from social networks. I pretty much outlined how I feel over here: Can anyone make money from social networking? Forums, are one form of social networking, and they are notorious for being difficult to monetize. I think it is worse for other kinds of social networking business models. They look good, but they cost a fortune, and the ROI seems to be questionable. Rich
Which social-bookmarking websites have worked well for you and which ones have not? What do you think is the reason for that? Is it because those social-bookmarking websites serve a targeted audience? Or is it because the webpage you submitted was written well with an appealing content and with well targeted advertisements?
i think those visitors coming from social bookmarking sites come to your site for content not buying something and that's the philosophy of social-bookmarking.if your site is a blog they may subscribe to your rss but even that is very rare because they have very short attention span at that moment.
Are you certain about that? Aren't you confusing the effect of the large amount of traffic driven to your website with the number of visitors that actually click on advertisements? Have you submitted your website to other social-bookmarking websites than StumbleUpon and Digg? Have you checked your statistics (bounce rate, page views, CTR)? Rich's recent article mentions quite the opposite:
not!. i have my sites on the front of digg a bunch of times. all that is good for is maybe a few dollors from adsense. And perhaps a crashed server
