Hello, I currently have a blog that has some good linkeage....but a really horrid domain name. I have a much better branded domain that I would like to use. Should I 301 direct the new domain to the old? Or should I transfer all files to the new domain and 301 the old domain to the new? It is a wordpress blog. Thanks!
I think 301ing the old into the new would be best. If you 301 the new into the old it will not do much good unless you think the new domain name will be getting a lot of type in traffic. And besides, didn't you register the new domain because you would like to see everyone associate that name with your site, instead of the old "horrid domain name"? If you 301 the old into the new you will get a good branded domain and the link equity from the old domain. Since the 301 will redirect the link juice over to the new domain.
