You know after reading this thread each day. I am attempted to lean toward backlinks as the most important SEO procedure. Now I am not so sure that there is one that is more important than another. If your site is completely optimized for Google then you will eventually get listed. The thing to remember is that you need to combine each part of SEO to make it complete. Think of it as a circle. It never ends. The more content you have the more links you will need or get.

 

I think the most important SEO task is to build traffic. In my opinion, building backlinks is to improve ranking in google, and improving ranking is to bring traffic to your site. So the final destination is to get traffic.

 

IMO there is no one thing that makes good SEO. You need original keyword rich content, links in, regular updates of pages... it all works together to increase your presence on the internet and improve your standing with google as a valuable resource.

All you need to do is remember that Google intends to supply searchers with high-quality results. If you can show Google that your site is valid, important, popular and "upwardly mobile" then you'll get further.

It depends on which brings the best results, and this is dependant on the niche, for some niches, article promotion works well, while others blog commenting works well

 

all other activities will be ineffective if you don't connect with your audience through quality content

I think the title tag in your webpages is very important for in-house seo. As i have notice over time google looks at your title for keyworks. So make your title with good keyworks toward your niche and it should help.

 

Fresh content matters the most but it must get links from authoritative domain to get crawled rapidly and after a while if you keep updating your site regularly then the crawlers don't need any body else to refer you they keep checking your site with the ratio of your update. but you still not forget to build those authority links as they matter a lot in rankings.

 

another big thing ive noticed is speed. 100% xhtml/css validation on top of a site with quality content makes it very easy for bots to crawl. slow load times and broken code is a big turn off for them.
