Which Selectors and Properties are Optional and Which are Necessary?

I'm a little confused about something which might sound a little stupid.

Which selectors are optional and which are necessary? For example, when styling a DIV, are there any selectors and their respective properties that must be declared?

Or, is all styling just completely optional?

They're all optional. You could completely forget about using a stylesheet. Take a look at this. Now, turn the stylesheet off (view=>page style=>no style). A perfectly usable page without css; which is where every page ought to start.

    cheers,

    Thanks, Gary.

I must say that I had no idea that styling can be turned off!

Then you need to google "css naked day" : ) (where the authors turn it off to show off their html)
