Hi thanks for doing this. I have spent a while looking for something that will work. Here is what I am looking for:

-The ability for users to upload files to a central site (Mine), have a description and keywords tag for each item, and preferably be able to rate the items.

-Essentially this will look like a cross between a file sharing site, and articles site, and a social network.

-Ideally, people will have to login to upload files, download files, but not to look around the site. Or these options could be configurable.

-The site must look clean, or be highly configurable.

-I intend to monetise the site with adsense, and similar, so this must fit in, either as part of the site, or simply by modifying the templates.

-I would prefer php, with a mysql database, but other methods can be arranged.

-I would also like it to be SE friendly, if possible.

-I guess the main things are: 1) the overall look of the site, this must be clean, 2) the ability to upload .zip or similar, 3) the ability to share the files with other members of the community.


I don’t mind either free or paid programs as long as they work.

Well, essentially, I am looking to make a user generated content site. I have been quoted by some developers that I use for something similar at 75 hours to build, but it doesn't have all the functions that I need, so would be more.

I am ideally looking for something off the shelf. I don't think the idea that I have is going to be pulling in big $$, but it is something that I think is worthwhile, and could be fun.

So, as to budget, Less that GBP £200 (Approx $400) for the right software.

I am looking for a widget for a social networking site (much like myspace) idea I'm working on, that will create a badge that will say "visit my profile at sitename.com", and it should include the copy/paste code bar under it. Do you know if such a thing exists? Of course, it would have to dynamically insert the link from that profile page into the badge.
