I think AMD AM2 PHENOM 64 X3 8650 (2.3Ghz) would be better in my opinion.
I have AMD Phenom[tm] 9500 Quad Core with Nvidia GeForce 8400 GT.
Im currently playing Crysis warhead these days and its running smoothly.

IMO, AMD works better for graphics and are made for games ;) older AMD processors where having heating problem but all new processors are much more reliable. you can go with AMD as compare to Intel CORE 2 DUO

There just happens to be an article on Sharkyextreme on the AM2 PHENOM

    http://www.sharkyextreme.com/article.php/3792516

Sharky has a reputation of doing side by side comparisons of chips.

Toms hardware has a side by side CPU comparison chart. I really like this one. You can pick the application, the processors and see the results next to each other - http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/processors,6.html?modelx=33&model1=503&model2=444&chart=166

Toms hardware goes up to the third quarter of 2008. Hopefully the 4th quarter will be posted in January or February.

According to one of those charts on toms page, in Unreal-Tournament 3 at 1680x1050:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 - 122 FPS

    AMD Phenom X3 8650 - 95.2 FPS

I think AMD processors are goods for games.
Intel processors are also good but in the case of gaming AMD processors are much efficient than Intel in comparison of Graphics and in AMD systems you can allocate more space from your RAM to graphics.that's why I like AMD systems more.

    AMD AM2 PHENOM 64 X3 8650 (2.3Ghz)

AMD is meant for gaming and graphics along with video

Intel is meant for servers and suck for gaming...

    hi mrprice,

    just little advice,
AMD more suitable for work, because it will heat faster when used to play games

while Intel is more stable, better when you upgrade the memory and VGA ram^^
    <according to experience>

people are forgetting that the Core Duo is 2 processor cores running at that speed, and the AMD is single-core?

I'd take the Core Duo even though I've historically like AMD's product better. Also, although ATI used to be a canadian company and they had some great stuff (now owned by AMD) I wouldn't touch it. It pains me that this machine uses ATI.

Go nVidia for the graphics, and don't settle for anything less. nVidia has far better support because they have been MUCH more open about sharing their driver specs and information to the open-source and development community, so you'll have a lot more stuff working better with nVidia, even if the ATI card is of equal power.

I would rather have a less-powerful but better supported nVidia card than this ATI in here right now.

AMD AM2 PHENOM 64 X3 8650 (2.3Ghz) - These processors are built for gaming, though Intel's Duo might have a higher FPS rate. I would go with the AMD though. Best of luck.
