Which PR is hard to improve to next level

PR2 or PR3 can easily be achieved.
But as i haven't experience of next level PRs so i am asking here which PR is hard to improve to next level.
As DP is on PR7 for many months.

Each PR gets exponentially harder to achieve. Submitting to 300 or so free directories will get you usually a PR4. Past that it gets pretty hard without buying some high PR links or providing good content to attract natural backlinks. The natural way takes a while. PR 5 is a good goal to achieve without spending money (through link exchanges, directory and article submissions, etc). It can be done in a few months, but like I said takes alot of time and dedication.

Alternatively, if you had some high PR sites it only takes a couple descent PR6 links to get a PR5.

Definitely have to agree with mdvaldosta on this - after PR4, things start getting tough, requiring persistence, patience and professionalism; merely getting links is not enough IMO - they must be relevant, especially after the Jäger update.

I think going from a 6 to a 7 is the hardest. I can easily get a 6 without trying, but 7 is where it breaks me. That's for me personally, only because I have a network of PR5/PR6 sites which give sme the ability to bring a site so high in such a short amount of time. Under normal circumstances, I agree with those above that it's hardest after PR4.

I have several sites with PR 3 and 4. But getting above that is something that I find hard. I find it even hard to get PR 4 with sites that do not target international visitors because of local language

    @mdvaldosta
Are there toos to help do this?

There are some services to do this, I did most of my by hand though. You may find some tools online, such as 'submission' tools for search engines. I havne't found any good tools that work for directories though.

i agree pr6 -7 is where it really gets tough. I have yet to break the pr7 barrier lol. Not to down play pr5-6 as that just takes a while but not impossible.

pr7 seems impossible to me unless you pay for it, which I am not willing to do.

    :)

Yea I agree, PR7 takes either alot of money to buy high PR links or a really really lucky website that gets very popular. My initial goal was PR4, but now that's shifted to PR5. I'm pretty sure I'll get that on at least 4 websites next update so now I'm shooting for PR6.

I agree with the point about each level being exponentially more difficult. For example, it's easy to get to level 1, 10 times harder to get from 1 to 2, 100 times harder to get from 2 to 3, and so on.

In my case, getting from 6 to 7 is where I'm stuck, and have been for a long time even though traffic and backlinks have significantly increased over that time. I'm guessing I would have to improve my traffic by at least a factor of 10 to make the next level.

DMOZ offers very little PR boost. It is no different than a regular link for passing PR. If your listing in on a PR5 page, and there are 30 outgoing links, you would need appoximately 30-35 DMOZ listings to make your site a PR5. The benefit of a DMOZ listing is greatly over-rated (probably by people who don't have a listing and have heard the hype) and seems to given less and less weight by google with each update. I have multiple sites in dmoz and you couldn't tell which ones were or weren't listed by looking at the PR or SERPS.

It depends on what category your site gets listed. If it is a category deep in the directory it will get less pr passed to it. If you manage to get a site in a top category that will give you a better pr boost.

I think PR5 - PR6 is the hardest to do for free without relying on other existing sites you own to boost its PR. Sure its easy for a lot of us to sit around and say "I can get a PR6 so easily." The truth be told though, I can easily do it s well, but this is because I have a lot of existing PR6's that I just link together.

If I had to go back and start from scratch with directories and good ol link exchnaging, I would say getting from a 5 to a 6 is tough.

I have only had a PR7 once and I lost it after Jagger. Just a tease.

I heard it is possible for a google editor to come in and give your site a high pr even if the website does not have good seo techniques.. Is that true?
