Which PHPmyAdmin Package should be installed for localhost editing purposes +

I haven't yet really started to learn PHP but as I am using wordpress (content management system) so I feel the need to get familiar with it. I would love to know which PHP package should I install which can install everything for me to work.

    I heard about http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

    How good is it?

any better options! - I need something easy to install as well with great options available with long term perspective ....

    Thanks!

Xampp works fine, all you'll probably need is already bundled in the package.

for learning xampp is good but dont use xampp in your linux server for security reasons.
Just go to http://mysql-apache-php.com and install your LAMP server. It aint that hard!

XAMPP is best!..I've used several packages but XAMPP is best because it has both versions of php and is pretty easy to use.

For now, I have installed XAMPP and it works fine. I mean I installed it with one click, that was really easy!

Now, how can I get wordpress files to edit it locally and play with it. Where do I have to put the files to get started and how exaclty .... details would be appreciated ...

To activate apache & mysql use xampp-control in the xampp folder, to edit wordpress files you don't need to download them again, just edit the files in htdocs, to use wordpress you need to enable mysql, then create a new database using phpmyadmin, and run the wordpress installer. (what do you mean with? :"Where the folder will showup to edit files?", sorry i don't understand that xD)

    Ok, it looks fine now.

I have saved the wordpress folder in to a wordpress folder and that was placed in to htdocs. Now it asks for the database name, user, pass and table prefix. I wrote the database name correctly and haven't touched prefix as I want one installation only. What about user and pass? - How to configure that?

by default every database must be connected as

    user: root
    pass: <empty>

why not use phpmyadmin to manage databases. just do http://localhost/phpmyadmin

    it comes preinstalled with xampp.
