As a J2EE developer I decided to start learning PHP for lightweight web applications - the right way. I had a look at Zend framework - it looks huge for an open source developer(Normally I check every line of any framework). CakePHP looks good and reminded of Struts. As a PHP scripter which is your popular framework? Cheers
Good to see a J2EE dev on DP, I am also a J2EE geek From my experience, I can say that, symfony will be a great choice for you. It mimics several futures of Servlet API. its a full full-fledged RAD framework. supports ORM and comes with a unit and functional testing framework Most important, code is not ugly like other PHP frameworks. One thing of symfony which I dislike is configuration. you will have to deal with lots of config files, and lots of config options. you need to learn YML as all the configuration files uses YML.
