Which PhotoShop Version

I have been using the full versions of Photoshop for some time, now up to version 70.

3 of us use the software, keep in mind that we are developers and really use PS for limited use. For making easy images for our sites, really just using the layer function to make rollovers and have better text layouts and smother edges.

We are looking into getting software liscenses now and I am wondering if there are any more cost effective PS versions than the full one. Maybe there are some less expensive software packages for us to use. These will be run on the PC platform.

    Thoughts???

I would try to find a cheap copies of 7.0. I use CS2, but for normal web applications 7.0 has everything I need. The only feature that CS2 has that 7.0 doesn't that I do use a lot is the red-eye reduction feature. Otherwise save the money and get the cheaper version. The upgrade is fairly cheap as well, so you can sometimes buy a cheap earlier copy and upgrade to the newer versions.

I love ULead PhotoImpace. I had my computer die and my PhotoImpact software not with me. I just bought an old version of it on ebay for 99 cents. Sad to say shipping and handling more than software.

I would say if you could get a good deal on older version try it.

Yeah, I'd say 7.0 has all that you will need.

I upgraded to CS2 because I was able to find it for $150. Otherwise I would have stayed with 6.0. To be honest, I'm having a little bit of difficulty just because some of the tools have moved around and CS2 handles things a bit differently now than what I'm used to.

I have an MSDN liscense from microsoft, get a nice package of disks every month with software from them. Have had vista for a good long time, but haven't tried it. Visual studio 2005 has been very cool to try.

Back to the task, what is a fair price to get PS 7.0 in US?

if you have a student card or are an educator - there's always the academic version, if you want to change software, lots of computer mags give away free software (full version) in a dvd/cd - that's how I got a copy of PaintShop Pro. Have a look at http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,4440,00.asp if you want free try this one... http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/ (this is from pcmags review: Software company Serif has a novel approach for attracting new customers to its latest applications: Give away the old versions. At www.serif.com you can buy 2005's PhotoPlus 10 for $80, and at www.freeserifsoftware.com you can download 1999's PhotoPlus 6 for free. So, while PhotoPlus 6 clearly isn't the latest and greatest, it is hands-down the best free basic image editor around)
