How do you fare out between Contextual ads and Site-Targeted ads? From the people on WW and adsense's blog, it seems like most people have lower for the site-targeted. From my own stats, site targeted has always outperformed contextual as far as eCPM, for as long as I've been getting site targeted ads ( I found I've been getting since September ). The only thing is that the number of site-targeted impressions is much smaller compared to contextual impressions.
For high traffic sites maybe site targeted is better... For low traffic sites, my opinion is that site targeted ads are not so great :/
Contextual is better for both my forums and my site. Contextual pays better in terms of eCPM. How much better ? About 20% ~ 40%. I would like to think it's because the keywords my site and forums are after are very cheap ones.
For one site it's site targetted For the other few contextual It depends on your traffic, CTR and CPC - way too many dependencies to say that one of thise two is better
I would have to say contextual for my sites. I have noticed that my classifieds site has been targeted by HP promoting their computers though. I find this funny because my classifieds site is for Macintosh computers. I guess they are try to get people to switch back.
On some (some celebrity sites) sites of mine, site targetted ads are perforing better than contextual.
Alot depends on who or what is site targetting. If you get people that specifically sign up on your site, you have a chance to make some decent cash. (notice Shawn's ad). I had site targetting turned off for a while, just turned it back on last week as I am getting advertiser requests, and some dont want to pay my rates. At that point, I use the site targetting feature as a second chance to get their ads on my site. This actually worked with one person so far
I had a question about targeted rates. I didn't see any where to set a rate so I assumed that Google set the rate based on the average eCPM of your site. If that was the case then the only way that contextual would be better is if the earnings per click were going up. So buying a targeted ad is a way for the advertiser to lock in a price. For both the advertiser and publisher I see targeting as having a stabalizeing effect. So is it a question of which is better? or which earns more? One in the hand two in the bush sort of thing.
I take back my last comment. Today another advertiser signed up for one of my sites. Now I have CPM ads running on both sites and have made as much with the CPM ads today as I have with the PPC ones.
I have also noticed that the CPM of my site targeted ads has increased over the past couple of days. I guess as more advertisers sign up for ads on your site the higher the CPM gets.
I believe site targeted has performed better for me but I also think contextual can provide the higher cpc clicks every now and then as they might be coming from a completely different niche with higher bidding.
