I have this site that would stay at number one for a few days and then it would bounce to page three and back, it would do this for about a week. Prior to this however as I was creating links it was bouncing all over the place. Anyway now it is nowhere to be seen for that particular keyword and I think I have been penalized. Question is by what? I have most likely put it down to anchor text because it is almost always the same on all my articles so have made changes to them in my articles.(my backlinks are mainly articles on a variety of websites ezine etc) however I also have forum and blog comment links. Another problem I think it may be is my articles themselves although they are completely unique because I wrote them they are actually very similar as is everything else on google related to my keyword because its a product and there is not really much more I can write about in my articles apart from a review because of the very nature of it.

What would be the best approach to getting back to number one for my keyword bearing in mind it was there before but google obviously didn't like how it was getting there?
    • change anchor text to sub keywords having main keyword in them less
    • changing and rewording articles as best as possible to make them as unique and different as possible
    • removing anchor text on some articles(basically removing the back link) until the point where google feels the links are natual
