If the another site offered you a link from either: 1) Home Page with PR5 (www.mysite.com) 2) Sub-page with PR6 (www.mysitecom/sub-page.html) Which link is more valuable? Would you take the higher PR6 sub-page or home page with PR5.
Really? I've always been told that a link from the home page is always more valuable than any sub-page, regardless of PR.
I would strongly recommend to go for the homepage link. You are like to get more traffic from there at the sametime you can enjoy a decent Page Rank too.
i'd chose the subpage because: 1. better pr 2. may be more relevant (the homepage is representative for the entire site while the subpage may be more specific)
I think it's depends of the topics of the pages. If the homepage is not really related to yours, but the subpage is very revelant to the topics of your site, I would choose the second one. If revelancies are equals, I would take the first one. If you think the home page got a lot of traffic and the subpage a lot less, and if you goal is getting visitors, go for the home. If your goal is to get a good backlink for SERP ranking, choose revelancy. imo
1. PR does not necessary remain the same always. PR of the homepage is highly likely to gain in the future simply because majority of the links are pointing to the homepage. 2. The relevency factor depends. Vast majoirty of the sites clearly targeted for particular products or service. In that case homepage and the subpages are the same.
yes but as the subpage already has better pr than the homepage, there are big chances to have more relevancy than the homepage; and in the future its pr may still be higher than the homepage's... there are many factors on which the chosing depends, but knowing the links would bring much help
I would say the revelency is equal between the home page and sub-page. I also don't expect much traffic from this link, since it just a small text link on the bottom of the page. The link is for SEO purpose only. Given everything else being equal - which link is better?
I would still recommed the homepage link. If you have any doubts or want to enjoy temporary high PR you may go for the subpage. There is nothing wrong in terms of SEO.
It depends on why the subpage is ranked, I would think. Is the subpage some sort of resourse page that a lot of people link to. I know of a few pages on some sites I always check. For example, a list of free directories that is updated frequently. This may get more traffic that a homepage.
The key is like naphets66 said, if the subpage is really important and looks lke it has more traffic than the homepage, go for it, if not , the home page is more likely to give you more relevancy, the subpage may have pr 6 but the home page is likely to keep growing with the site.
