i am thinking about duel booting. I am currently using xp pro so are there any issues with due booting with ubuntu? I heard it is best to have them on different hardrives?
Triple booting... Windows XP, Fedora Linux, BeOS. But i use BeOS everyday for all my work. Good OS but already dead in the market..
Windows XP Pro SP2 I heard that we will need to upgrade our machines prior to installing Windows Vista, gotta be a resource hog.
Windows, though personally hate all the junk and tendency to control that XP try to put on you, despite great performance with memory/graphics I must admit. Windows Server 2003 (main HD) Windows 2000 / Windows 98SE (slave partitioned) These last ones considered among the most estable ever developed... not my opinion but what is said among techi-pages
Thank you all for voting and giving precious comments. I've heard many people praising RedHat Linux 9. What do you people think.
It's out of date. Go for an up-to-date Linux such as SUSE Linux 10 or Fedora Core 5. Ubuntu is good and a debian-based system, too.
Thank you very much for guiding me. I've made up my mind to use Fedora Core 5, however there are some confusions which i hope to have some solution. First is that I've got a harddisk of 40 GB Seagate and I'v made 2 partitions of 20 GB each. One is having windows xp and the other partition is having my important data. Is it possible to Install fedora core 5 on that partition which is having winxp right now and the other partition remain same that is in NTFS file system. How can i access that partition with fc5. Secondly will fc5 detect my hardware automatically. My hardware configuration is follows: 1. Intel P3 800 MHz processor 2. Sound card built in 3. Real Tek LAN Card 4. Vga card built in 5. US Robotics Modem 6. Sound Card built in I am actually having intel chip set board of gfxcell Also can you recommend me any source from where i can get drivers for linux and a site which has complete list of fc5 commands list with syntax and a good complete tutorial site. Thanks in Advance.
I use Windows XP Professional BTW, is it ok to have two OS in a PC but they are installed in different hard disks? (Dual boot) Coz I'm planning to do that Thanks
1. It's likely to install OK on that hardware, but you won't know until you try. 2. No problem installing alongside WinXP, but again you won't know for sure until you try. Some BIOSes and/or anti-virus get upset when boot records are changed. After installing Linux, you might need to login as admin (or a user within Admin rights) to WinXP as it likes to "update" itself regarding "hardware changes" (changes to the disk's partition table) but this seems to happen only on rare occassions. Make a back-up of your MBR and have a disk handy you can use to recover it if you don't have a WinXP install CD. but as I solely use Linux I don't know all the problems that might arise. 3. linuxquestions.org is usually good for answers to Linux problems and so is google, I don't know what fedora's documentation is like but it's here http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/ 4. drivers are usually coming with the system (either as modules or built into the kernel), otherwise ask the hardware manufacturer or google (google is God and knows all! ;-)) Good luck!
How did you do that? Coz I don't have enough knowledge when it comes to that stuff... Please tell me.. so that I can do it by myself Thanks
I am not an expert, but IMO, all you need is nice amount of ram and hdd space, and atleast 4 drives for 4 OS, btw Ryan my buddy is an expert in linux, you can ask him , but if its windows, you can PM me
