Which one to rely on for back link check , GOOGLE or YAHOO or any other

    Hi Guys,
I usually do a back link test or check by running following query on google and yahoo

    link:sitename.com in google and yahoo

google will provide links pointing to you
yahoo will also provide inlinks coming to your site by opening site explorer

but its really strange both of them never match each other ever. When google sees some links, Yahoo may not and Vice versa as well

So which one to rely on .

    Or

Is there any other good back link checker which is reliable and you can rely on and trust the results. Please advice

    Thanks,

check out the software in my signature below. Is a new program I´ve been working on, it gets a list of backlinks of your website (up to 1000 links) and then it analyzes 1 to 1, you will find out the age of the links, the server location, the pr, the theme of the page...and finally the linklove value, that is the value the program will give for any link.
    It´s free, check it out.

    Great Question:

Google and Yahoo are definitely going to give you some mixed reviews as the backlink data that they compile.

Here is my advice go to the this link and download this toolbar it is really good to have if your doing any type of SEO and it is free!

    http://tools.seobook.com/seo-toolbar/

If link does not work just copy it

    Hope this helps

Thanks Atniz - an interesting list. I've just tried one I haven't tried before. Strange how every tool lists different SB sites - some list 1 and some list another. very few sites get listed in all tools.

I use my google webmaster tools and my yahoo site explorer.

The google link: command is broken and only shows a very small portion of your links.

At my Google Webmaster Tools, they show me over 2,650 links (called "External Links" by Google, they mean Inbound or Back Links).

Of those 2,650 displayed links, about 250 of them (about 10%) are NO FOLLOW.

For example, they regularly show links at "Hubspot" (www.hubspot.com) which are NO FOLLOW links. About 30 links are from this site alone!

Yahoo Site Explorer is rather crappy to me, because it only shows 1000 links total.

Google Webmaster Tools shows about 160% more links than YSE.

Yahoo does have a limit, but sometimes Google ommits some links, so I suggest you try yourself with both apps, and judge on your own.

Most people use yahoo site explorer, even though you'd think that would not make sense for google. It's going to show you a fairly accurate number of backlinks coming to your site I think. Google hides this info for whatever reason.

When checking your links though, also make sure you are checking your anchor text. You can google anchor text analyzer in the G and come up with some interesting free tools that way.

Well ok Google is hiding all links for whatsoever reason but did you think in first case why are they hiding it at all ?

Or can it be concluded , google shows only Trusted links , Is that the case ? if yes the its not question of hiding its question of authority links showed or not ? if showed how do they define what should be counted to be shown as authority links
