I have been using Yahoo for a long time. I used a little bit of gmail and I do not like it that much.
Until recently, my google account was disabled including gmail. I tried to get the reason many times but the answers were sent out by robot and no real explanation is made.

    Now, I hate gmail a lot.

Gmail's storage is larger than Yahoo, that's for sure.

    Definitely Gmail!

I hate Yahoo it has changed and it is all tiny and I can't scroll properly.. I use a larger screen resolution and they have a new ad on the right that drives me insane.. so no contest in my opinion!

Gmail has an auto notifier, you will never run out of space.. there is a glitch with the Rich Text at the moment but it is amazing and my favorite by far!

i use gmail, yahoo and hotmail, because they are gateways to many other services like youtube, orukut, picasa, yahoo fantasy games, msn passport, msn webmaster tools, yahoo site explorer, google analytics.. you name it, whatever you need are available in gmail, yahoo and hotmail. Especially for SEO and webmasters, it is a must.

for email, I prefer gmail because it gives the best sense of security, I just wish I had more filters and more labels to make better use of my email. but to be honest, I use all of them... it's just matter of choice. but gmail seems to be the best, however, i feel if we rely on one thing so much, we are depending alot and it will later hurt our privacy and authority of choices.. that's why i tried to use all things in balance.

Yahoo now offers unmetered space email, only attachment restrictions.

but the main reason that turned off me was Yahoo disabled POP access in 2002 or 2003. Only to be available for paid services.

Gmail beats everyone else on this matter, gmail is fast and only contextual based ads, that is now annoying :p but before it doesn't even really bother me at all. and it offers POP services, also forwarding services.

I have one website setup for forwarding of my gmail, so that I can mirror all my mails if something goes wrong to one of my website inbox. vice versa to keep all the important mails as well. I think everyone here could be able to backup on different locations for their emails because nowadays, emails are kind of important, especially us here reading this message LOL

Personally I still love Gmail... Why, simply because the pop3 is free, while Yahoo you need to upgrade.

what i love with GMail is simplicity while in Yahoo is the integration of the chat and other services of Yahoo (which is also available in GMail thru GTalk). Still I am using Live/Hotmail. :)

Yahoo's free email accounts do not support pop3 and email forwarding.
Gmail has free pop3 support and email forwarding.
If you do not need to download and manage emails with a desktop software
yahoo becomes popular, because it has better looking web interface then gmail.

Did you try to sign up again for the same account ID at gmail.
Someone might get your old email address and receive your messages.
Not in purpose, but it might happen unexpectedly.

    Gmail.

Spammers seem to love having Gmail ID's, so it must be THAT awesome. Never saw a spammer with a yahoomail ID.

    I prefer both..

I use Gmail for my gtalk and other google service purposes.. not email.. i have enabled the automatic forwarding system in gmail which will forward all mails to Yahoo! I am gonna revert it!

I use Yahoo since its my primary email.. i am gonna stop using this.. as its spam blocking is ridiculous!

    Hope i helped!
