Getting traffic seems to be the most commonly asked questions on most internet marketing forums.

Now what are your views about which traffic source is better?

Email, search engine or any others?

A combination of sources...blog comments...social sites...email...forum posts...ads...search engines ONLY if you consistently rank high...never abandon traditional marketing...

Ok I'm the different one here -- I say email. If you can develop a mailing list and can offer the members unique content at least once a week by email, then you will see a good flow of regulars. Of course, having a high-ranked site on a search engine will bring in traffic. It's just that my preferred method is email.

I think serach engines are great in traffic source. The question is how you should use it to get that level of traffic?
The best way you can do this is via backlinks across all your articles on article directories, facebook page, twitter page and of course the signature or url on your online forums url.

Article marketing gels with search engines like peanut and butter, All you need to do is create an seo title that people use them to find via search engine. Include your link at the resource box on the article and post it on article directories like ezine, bukisa and etc. Search engines will find yours articles and link your url to it via page ranking just like google does. You can use facebook page as well for this as the search engine could find your groups , pages and facebook etc without anyone being a facebook user in the first place. Its the same case with twitter and of course online forums. You just need to identify the correct keywords and insert your url wherever possible so that the search engine will find your site faster than email list and etc.

You can try my ebook to find the best way to promote your site with search engines via article marketing, facebook, twitter and online forums or just keep concentrating in building backlinks so that the search engine will be able to find your site easy!

Email traffic is more likely to purchase from you. They are already "sold" on what you have to offer or they wouldn't have opted in to your list. SEO traffic still is just checking things out and may or may not be interested.

    All the best,

    Joy

Search engine is arguably the better traffic source when compared to email marketing. Because in email marketing, the traffic lasts only for short time after sending out the email blast. Whereas traffic from search engine drips in regularly whether you update the site or not.

Targeted email traffic can work wonders! Organic search traffic can be bouncy.. meaning the visitor checks out the page, and leave.. never do anything else much while on the website.

I always heard it was search engine traffic, so I've been working hard to get my site ranked for a very high traffic keyword. I was always sitting at around 128... very low. After some link building and marketing, I'm up to number 18 and I've seen a 500% increase in traffic, just trying to go for that keyword, in about a month... So, my answer would have to be search engines, as well.

I can't wait until I'm up to #1-5 for the keyword!

Search engines of course. We get organic traffic from search engines. Apart from that, social bookmarking and networking sites are also valuable as far as traffic is concerned.

Email Marketing is pretty dangerous, one single mistake can land ur mail into spam box. I prefer Search Engines for better traffic.

Viewers will come from different sources, so that if you have more back links, social bookmarkings, ads on related niche are the important things in my point of view.

I'm all for Search Engine traffic.

Also, something most people don't even think about is using offline strategies to drive quality traffic to your site. Direct-mail and targeted classified ads can bring tons of high quality visitors ...
