Well, I'm not sure anyone's going to jump up and tell you which niches they're making lots of money with. It's not like we need more competition :D

Go back to first principles and human psychology. The best niches to target are ones where people are in the mood to spend money. That's why you see a lot of sites promoting things like digital cameras... if it's a product/service where a lot of people sit down at the computer to find information and pricing, that's a good niche. As for competition... well, that's the real trick, finding a niche that's underserved. You can use tools like NicheBOT, Google's traffic estimator, and my own Google Suggest Explorer to figure out what people are searching for and how many competitive sites there are.

It's work to do this, I know, but in the long run it can make the difference between having a successful site and a mediocre site. The real trick is to find the intersection between the things YOU like and the things that OTHERS want. It REALLY helps if you're interested and passionate in the niche.

Or you can just skip the tools and use some of my ideas for niches. But I would go with the topic you are most interested and knowledgable about.

Why not build all three? After a while you can ditch the worst performing one and focus on developing the 2 best performers.

Yup, that's what I told ishka. Build a series of mini-sites for a while, and then go back and add more content and more promotion to the one that seems to be doing best.
