My product is aimed at UK market. I am happy for overseas users to see the site as there is other content that will be useful to them and may elicit backlinks but the market I am targetting is the UK. Is there a tag which will tell Google that I am focused on the UK market and google.co.uk as opposed to google.com?
Meta tag will be same for every place , google.uk as well as .com/.in whatever. Try to use high paying keywords , you can find out them from adwords keyword ranking tool.
Log into your webmaster tools(its a google thing)https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en and tell it to target the UK... Its that simple. That is where you submit a sitemap and a range of other things that may have escaped you as well. Nigel
You can use geo tags and visit this site for more information. and set Target domain as uk in google webmaster tool. and submit your sites in to .co.uk specific directories, article directories and blogs.
Wrong. Google doesn't use them for ranking purposes, but they still employ them for other reasons, such as quality control among other things.
I agree. But, I must say. Meta tags have never been a guaranteed way to gain a top ranking on crawler-based search engines.
Put your business contact information where it can be easily crawled and include a telephone number. Then make sure you are listed for Local Search in your area.
