I was work today at the hilton and we had a seo seminar! some of the points i heard them say was that Google ignores any links which * Not counting reciprocal links. * Only counting links that are producing traffic. * Calculating whether the link is relevant to your site or not. * Calculating the lineage of a link, i.e. looking at whether the site linking to you is spamming or not. Are these true?
I have never heard of this before but it could be true, I would like to know the answers to these questions as well.
I just checked one of my sites and - it is showing links from a reciprocal partner - it is showing some directories that never send any traffic I think they just choose a random sample to show but maybe it's based on relevance and 'spam factor'
I think this is another case of some "seo experts" making statements that they have no way of knowing to be true or not.
Depends on what you/they mean by "ignores any links"... ignores them in what way? Are we talking of the dismissing of the handing down of link juice from a PR context? In some of those instances that may be the case, but otherwise that sounds kind of wild & speculative and needs more explanation. Who gave the SEO Seminar, might I ask?
Netcallidus. When i got home from work that ay i googled the name and found their website and on the website it had the bit what i posted in this thread so i thought it would be easier to copy and paiste it. They had also said something about css level 2, i couldnt quite hear what they where saying but it as something about the first text google will see or something. Also they said that with google Adswords you don't have to lways spend the most on one keyword to be No1. For example say i have an ad and im paying .80p and someone else is paying £1.00 and my ad has a better clickthru rate that google would put me No1 as this will make google more money.
what link experts at my work place say is that google looks at the theme of the page and the site from where link is coming from. If it is relevant to your site well n good else useless.. now a days PR dosen't matter.
Not sure if any or all points are valid. But I have many back links listed in webmaster tools from where I never got any traffic.
Only counting links that are producing traffic. How would google know if a link on another site is producing traffic?
I'm thinking the same thing. It's impossible to tell, except there is always talk about the information Google can get from their analytics.
