    Google knows who links to what.
    When using a one way link google sees it and know that this link has been given because your web site is "important"
    When using the 2 way or even the three way it arouses suspicion that you just exchanged links, meaning it's not a natural link pointing to your web site because of its content...

    Although it will take you a little longer than the other two, it's well worth it. You'll get site-links, PR and traffic increse faster in the long run
