Saying you would prefer both is not exactly helpful when the poll is asking for your opinion on the most important! Anyway, I voted PR but its not black and white. Would you prefer a PR 9 Link from a unrelated site or a PR 0 from a relevant one? I think I would choose the PR9. In an idea world you would have both but often you have to choose which to target. If the PR is high (5+) then I do not give a care if its relevant - you WILL get a boost. But if its less than 4-5 then I would only seek a link if its relevant. Hope this helps - if you need help backlinking send me a PM.
Higher PR is better than just relevant. How many relevant PR 1 links do you need to up your PR 1 to 4 ^_^? But the best is PR + Relevant link
I voted higher PR because there are many sites which can be 'relevant' but having a link from them will never help you rank any better. An example is all these autoblogger news sites. Every time I post an article on my blog lots of sites automatically create a page with a summary and a link to "Read the Full Article". These sites give a dofollow link, but because the link is on a low quality site I don't think it's really helping my site, even though it is relevant.
I also voted for higher PR because they are so helpful to increase you ranking. But we can't neglect relevant links also because search engines love it.
This is a pretty cool poll. I'm interested to know everyone else's opinions on this as well. Maybe of some of us could justify why one is better than the other, that'll really be useful for us n00bs.
For me it's got to be high PR. High PR shows that it's an important site - you can get relevant links from any old site.
My experience is that a HIGH PR site reigns over relevant sites. The referring site can add the relevance in the link itself. For example, you might get an online newspaper, or the Library of congress, linking to our sites just to highlight a point. Those big sites may have nothing to do with our niche. But if they link the title right, that's worth a lot. Reason I mention the example of Library of Congress, is that they offered to add my link someday if my site goes non-commercial. They have like a PR 9 website. I'd love to have a link from the Library of Congress.
Both are important factors in link acquisition; but I'll go more on relevant links rather than from high PR links.
i think both are good but also you should have do follow or no follow. because do follow is much better.
Relevant is a plus, but honestly traffic is a must! A high PR page is not always going to be looked at by people, I'd just assume have a good link that people could potentially visit, and chances are a relevant link will help people want to check it out. Look at the sig links here on DP, none are high PR (ok, a few are) but the ones dealing with SEO/Webmasters/Etc can pull in several people per post (sometimes in the dozens)! Would a footer link on the main index here on DP offer that? NOT A CHANCE! Don't believe me? When was the last time YOU looked at the footer on this forum? ... yeah, relevance all the way!
