I was born in England, I learned French and German at school. Spanish is more useful than French. German and/or Italian are also useful.

Time was, French was the language of Europe - Lingua Franca - but that was because it was the easiest and commonest language taught as a second tongue across Europe. Nowadays, most of the world speaks English, German or Spanish, and French is sidelined into those places where it is the first languge.

The little bit of Spanish I have picked up over the years has proven more useful than my fluent French, as have the remnants of my schoolboy German.
But the original question was asked by an Israeli, so the answer to the question has to be - learn Yiddish! It is mainly German, anyway ...

Totally agree with crabfoot - French is dead. And you don't need to understand it to get horny when that girl in Paris whispers something dirty in your ear ... ;) I'd also vote for Spanish to go along with English. I speak 4 languages myself, but unluckily Spanish is not one of them and I have regretted that many times.

You need English in order to do international buisness. If you are in northern or central Africa "Cette va est mieux cie tu parle le Francais n'est pas"? If you are in south or central America "Aprender Espanol por favor".But when in Rome do as the Romans do,"Parlano un po di Italiano, grazioso".

Languages in the web: No. 1 is English; No. 2 is Chinese (Mandarin); No. 3 is Spanish.

If you know English and Spanish besides your native language, you are set to go....

I know English, I know my native language, I'm motivating myself to learn Spanish...
