    Hi,All:
I'm newbie from China and I want to have my first own websites.
We have a lot of websites in China and competition is very heavy.
I want to build site somewhat based on China but with English language,so the target customer is English foreigner.Hopefully, it'll be the bridge with China and the world.
Can you give me some hint that which kind of sites from China will attract you or some others?
I know some famous sites for business, travel, learning Chinese for the same purpose,so do you have some other suggestion?

    Thanks a lot.

The first thing that popped into my mind was "travel". Especially with the Olympics coming up there are going to be many English speaking people looking for good information about traveling to China.

My parents traveled quite a lot and China was one of their favorite trips. Give all those Olympic travelers good information about how to best experience your beautiful country and you will have plenty of opportunities for revenue sources. The timing might be tight but I think it could pay off well.

    Hope that helps,

    Tom

    Hi,TomR:
Thanks for your advice,it's really good idea, but for travel site, I'll face a lot of existing competitors.and to make one site with so many information(you know China's geography is really not small).I doubt a little how I (one or two person) can compete with some mature travel company.
I want to find some small chance that I can do with myself or two person and don't have so many competition. It looks like arabian nights, but I'm really think about it.
But you really give me good hint, after Olympics, travel in China will come to one high level.I'm sure travel sites about China will boost. The only thing is how can I find my ground in it.

Do you find any niche yet ? Are you putting some heavy resources into your website or just looking at building a small site ?

You know, feng shui, herbal medicine -- they have a lot of Westerner bias going around.

Authentic Chinese look on these things could be interesting.

Well, I would think that travel is an interesting topic. I know there are web sites covering those topics but if they are from big corporation or the government then what you be getting are textbook description of the places and so on, typically what you get out of a travel brochure.

If you do it on your own account, you can write in your own words and based on your own experience when you travel there. If something is good in your opinion, say it so and when it sucks, be honest about it. I think if you stay with reality and go with the party-line, people would appreciate it.

Actually, I think a travel blog would be a good idea. It does not necessary need to be professional but bring your camera around when you travel, take shots of life in China and then just pen your thoughts and experience. You can also talk about life in China and so on. Write based on your experience and thoughts truthfully. Of course, just don't break any local laws while you are at it and never criticize the government. :)

sites about American culture that is being picked up by China, for example you could do a whole story with pics about McDonald's in China and how different it is.

Focus on things that Americans Like, for example Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, well pretty much any fast food would be good.

It would have to have a lot of pictures too, since we don't really like to read very much...

The first thing I was thinking on is a site for chinese people that live abroad that are losing their connection with China. The second thing I was thinking on was to educate foreign people to learn chinese language and behavior for business use. More and more foreign people are doing budsiness in China.

True, I think it would be a good idea if you can offer reviews to these companies (saves the hassle for people to travel there..) again there's trust issues..

My vote goes for this idea too. We like to see the way our well-known all American creations shown in different light. Travel and tourism are nice bets as well.
