i'm doing SEO for a local company. I did a KW research. Which KW should I select:

    - global KW like "seo" which has a lot of searches
    - local KW like "seo county" which is specific to this company but has very low number of searches

    thanks for your help

If you think you can end up on top 10 or at least top 20 position for the global keyword then go for it!

But ranking on position 80 doesn't help much even if there are many thousands of daily searches for the keyword because no one bother to search that deep. Only about 10% search beyond the top 30 results.

Go for the local keyword if the competition is to tough on the global keyword.

If you target "seo county" you are automatically targetting seo anyway.

According to Wordtracker I would go for:

"michigan seo solutions" (80 searches a day in Goolge and 0 competing sites)
"michigan seo technology" (58 searches a day in Google and 0 competing sites)

yes, make the keyword niche, like 'seo country name'.

It will be better able to convert and get you customers.

Also, unless the firm provides SEO services worldwide, you shouldnt be optimizing for a broad keyword like 'seo'

Awesome, to the point analysis! Getting KW traffic on a lesser phrase that you can rank for will have short term results that can be built upon; no traffic from a broad, competitive KW term has nowhere to go ....
