Which Joomla SEF Url extention?

I would like the urls to look like www.example.com/this-is-example-post.

I would also like the title tag to be 'this is the title post' (nothing else).

The site will be around 500 articles so speed is important.

I also don't want to create duplicate urls/pages.

I don't mind paying if it means I will get the best extention for my needs.

    I am looking at:

Artico - looks like it slows down large sites and the free version puts ads in.

Open SEF - can't really figure out what the urls will look like:
    From Alledia
    • /joomla-license.html
    • /links/
    • /component/option,com_search/Itemid,5/
What does that last one mean (is that only for search?)

Also can section/category names be removed from URL's?

SEF Advance - section/category names can't be removed from URL's.

Are there any others I'm missing?

Has anyone had experience with any of these, good or bad?

Artio: even though it has an ad, it is still GPL and there is a patch on the Joomla forum that you can apply to remove the ad.

OpenSEF: I use this one. I'm having a few little problems with it at the moment but am overall very happy with it. I'm looking forward to trying out it's multisite functionality! That last URL from OpenSEF is the 'basic' Joomla SEF URL. Each component (with a few exceptions) should provide a sef_ext.php file that defines how it wants its URLs to look. If that file doesn't exist, OpenSEF will revert to the Joomla default SEF URL. sef_ext.php seems to be the defacto way of components defining their URLs and most packages support it.

SEF Advance: haven't used it, sorry.

I use openSEF on many Joomla sites, and would recommend this as your first choice. You mentioned uncertainty about what your URLs will look like, you are in control of that.

Thanks, good to know theres a patch for Artio. What sort of problems are you having with OpenSEF?

Thanks, are any of your joomla sites 300+ pages?

Do any of the extentions change the title tags to the posts, or is this built in to Joomla?

Also if anyone has any experience with SEFAdvance I'd appreciate a review.

I'm also concerened about multiple URLS's being created for the same page, I heard Artio and OpenSEF do this but SEF Advance doesn't, is this true?

The one 'problem' I'm having at the moment is that when I have more than one link to a component on the menu, I can't give each of those menu items their own 'alias'. A little annoying but not a showstopper for me as the component itself still works with its URLs as far as I can see.

I don't know anything about SEF Advance, but from what I can tell, the next RC of OpenSEF (whenever it comes) is meant to fix a lot of its duplicate URL issues I believe.

Yes, I have some sites with over 1,000 pages.

Extensions (components) may have their own sef_ext.php for openSEF, which is ideal. This is the case with Mosets Tree for example, or RapidRecipe- follow the link for Recipes Are Fun in my signature, this site has over 1,600 recipes (=pages). The sef_ext.php will determine how the component builds links.

I have had problems with openSEF creating multiple URLs, a result of leaving auto-mapping features on. By default it will log bad requests too, I have found it best to leave these features off.

I like JoomSef and OpenSEF. I use both of them on different sites. They both achieve the same end result, but how you get there is very different with both of these components.

As far as I understand, RC6 is only available to 'testers' ATM. The guys who write OpenSEF have been getting a lot of crap lately for how long it's been taking for the full release of the next version, so I think they're trying to limit the number of people for the time being to actual 'testers' so that they can nut it all out quicker.

I've had problems with Open-SEF, but am happy with Artio. Artio is what I'd recommend.

You may want to look at sh404SEF also, I have started using this on a couple new sites. Still too soon to see the effects on search engine positioning, but the component is definitely not so "clunky" as openSEF can be. Does not seem to have the problems with duplicate sef urls, and seems to have good support for some common Joomla components.

    The project is at http://extensions.joomla.org/compon...ink_id,2380/Itemid,35/limit,15/limitstart,15/
