Rugby is my personal favourite, followed by hunting. Obviously Soccer/football is the world most popular sports. Can't stand the American sports - baseball or NFL - start, stop, yawn!
According to me football is the best sports in the world, Its very famous and most viewed by the people too.
Any objective opinion on the matter would have to be in favor of choosing football. It's the most popular sport across more countries than any other sport, it requires good physical conditioning, athletic skill and coordination, and it requires very little equipment to play, so it's the most democratic. You can improvise a football game easily, even in the poorest of countries. I think the only reason North Americans don't embrace football (soccer for them) more is that there are relatively offensive scoring events than in the sports they're used to. But it's growing in popularity. In my part of Canada, where the presence of ethnic communities is fairly significant, the World Cup is a major cultural event. You have people from practically all participating nations wearing jerseys, putting flags up on their houses and businesses, packing the bars to watch games, driving around with their flags waving, honking their horns.
