    To be most popular, Christianity has to have higher number of people who have great regard, love and affection however there seems to be a lot of liberal (and happy go lucky) Christians which probably (just my guess) brings the overall numbers down to a figure close to that of followers of Islam (whose followers are just about 100-200 mn short) because of their fanatic adherence.

    Alternately, if the question was to find out who is the most popular prophet, my vote would certainly go to Jesus

    [populous: Densely populated, thickly settled (Greater head count in this case)
    popular: Regarded with great favor, approval, or affection especially by the general public]
