I think Hostgator is the best host for beginners. It is easy to use, and there is a 24 hour chatroom where you can get support. I am using Slicehost now, because it is supposed to have high performance, and to learn to manage a dedicated server.

I was with Hostgator for a week and then cancelled as their uptime was horrible and support even worse. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones as I had heard many good things about them

I think Hostgator is a good choice. HostMonster / Bluehost have better support though.

I use Bluehost and works really good, but when it goes offline for some reason it can take hours to get back. I'm sticking with them though :)

Hostgator, LunarPages, BlueHost, Webhostingbuzz, Hostnine - are the most popular web hosting providers!

I must say Hostgator. Their support is very quick. No downtime since I'm using it from last year.

For me hostingoption,uni-hosts and 3ix best. There is no issue related to uptime, support.

I came over this post and is very deligthed to know the positive feedback of hostgator. I visit the site and maybe perhaps try it later on as I start with my first official site.
