I want to build an authority site in my particular niche and was wondering whether its best to have 1 domain only, or 1 main domain and several other domains pointing to the main domain. For example: If the niche was SEO and I have a premium domain for it, the domain was SEOhelp.com Which option would be better: 1. SEOhelp.com on its own, backlinks built from other peoples websites, which I obviously wouldn't be able to control but has more unique content. 2. SEOhelp.com would be the main site, but would have a little bit less content than option 1. as time would have be to also spent making content for the other websites which dont have domain names which are as "premium" 1SEO-strategies.net helpmewithseotoday.org seoresources.info seo-seo-seo.co.uk increasepagerank.cc keywordnews.cc websiterankings.info Each of the less premium domains would be a small site/blog updated a few times a week linking back to SEOhelp.com a few times on the site, such as in the occassional blog post, post commenting, a banner etc. Then each of those sites would have backlinks from other sites (but they would all be backlinks from the same sites such as directories) SEOhelp.com would also have the same backlinks. So which one would you go with? I have found lots of domains for sale on various websites which are relating to my niche with some of my keywords in but dont exactly "hit" it per se so I would be able to build related mini websites but cant decide whether I would be better off spending the £50 I would be on the extra domains on adwords or something. Note - the domain names above are purely for example purposes only, I do not own any of them and my niche isn't SEO.
IMO focus on ONE site. Build good content and quality back links to that one site... not just the home page but also the inner pages. Creating a bunch of satellite sites that you maintain and use to link to your main site is only going to become a distraction and is going to create a LOT of additional work with little in the way of gains. Because those satellite sites don't have inbound links of their own, links from the satellite sites to your main site are not going to help a lot. You're going to now have to divide you content generation and link building across multiple sites for this strategy to be beneficial. IMO you're better off spending 10x the time generating good content and building back links for a single site than you are spending 1/10th the time generating content and building back links for each of 10 different sites.
Agree, focus on one site. However, if you choose to ignore that advice, please make sure that all your other domains are not hosted on the same server, with the same IP address.
Those secondary sites can only give you benefit if these itself will be popular, and maintaining and gaining popularity for 10 sites means roughly 10 times more work than one, and also keeping this work continuous will even be worst.
I agree. Focus on one site and make that an authority. Maintaining multiple sites will be a lot of work.
